Etiquette & Tips:

  • Please arrive a few minutes early to set up your mat and start to settle in. Leave shoes in the entryway.
  • If you are late and the class is already in opening meditation, please wait quietly until we are done to join.
  • Females: Please inform me if you are pregnant or on your cycle, as modifications may be/are necessary. If you are shy about mentioning either of these topics in front of the class, email or call me in advance and I will subtly queue you.
  • Please inform me if you have any injuries, past or present, or health issues that you feel I should be aware of.
  • Wear what is comfortable and allows you to move and stretch. Most people find that t-shirts and leggings or shorts work best. All classes are done in bare feet.
  • Drink plenty of water before and after practice, but try to limit intake of fluids during class, as this "extinguishes" the "tapas" (heat) that we are generating. This does not apply to pregnant women-if you need a break, a snack, or water, please help yourself!
  • Respect your limits and be aware of your edges-yoga isn't a competition-be happy with what is unfolding in your own practice, regardless of what is unfolding in your classmates' practice.
  • To paraphrase Ferris Bueller, I said it before, I'll say it again: Develop a home practice! Daily-if possible. You will reap the benefits of yoga all the sooner. Start with one pose that you liked in class and one pose that you found challenging. Add 10 minutes of meditation, more yin poses, breath work, trust your instincts, and let me know how it goes and/or if you have questions about designing a series to work on at home.
