I have been studying many styles of yoga for eight years with a variety of teachers-everything from Iyengar to Astanga to Vinyasa "Flow" to Bikram's Hot Yoga to Kundalini and many inter-disciplinary hybrids in between. (Please see also The History of Yoga by Linda Sparrow to get a clear overview of the different branches of yoga, as well as the eight-fold path.)

Eventually, I realized that I wanted to teach, and started my training with a 10-day intensive with Sarah Powers, an internationally acclaimed yoga luminary. www.sarahpowers.com I still take teacher training courses, as well attend regular yoga classes and workshops, as any teacher worth their salt should have a teacher. I currently am focused on the Iyengar style, and am studying with Nancy Roberts and Emilee Garfield. Iyengar is based on proper alignment and discipline, making it perfect for beginners, as well as advanced students. Both will see a deepening in their practice; everyone needs to work on the structure of their poses from time to time, and Iyengar is a great way to accomplish this.

Different paths of yoga exist, as one size doesn't fit all, so I encourage my students to seek out whatever yoga classes and styles they desire. But at Ping, you will get a solid footing (no pun intended) and an alignment awareness that will serve you, whichever direction you take your practice in. Feel free to ask for other class referrals, as I have taken many classes around town, and may be able to suggest something. I also will inform you of upcoming workshops that you may find beneficial.
